Hans-Lukas Teuber was born August 7, 1916 in Berlin, Germany. He attended the College Francais in Berlin for eight years, graduating in 1934 with a baccalaureat. While attending the University of Basle, Teuber became interested in philosophy, particulary the philosophy of science.
